Niwaki Kenzan Flower Frog, Extra Large

Ā£42.00

We call them flower frogs; in Japan, they're known as kenzan. No one really knows why they're called frogs, but one could assume it's because they're usually found sitting quietly underwater. Kenzan means 'sword mountain', which is much more obvious.

If you're unfamiliar, a flower frog is designed to sit in the bottom of a bowl or vase filled with water. The sturdy brass spikes hold flower stems in exactly the formation you want, which is why they are essential for ikebana and useful for western-style flower arrangements, where they eliminateĀ the need for floral foam.

This extra-large kenzan comes into its own when creating large arrangements from long or woody stems, such as hydrangeas, lilacs, lilies, and eucalyptus.

Advice and Inspiration

Brand Focus

Niwaki

When it comes to making tools for cutting, chopping, snipping or shearing, no one knows their craft better than the Japanese. Niwaki, meaning simply 'garden tree', is a Wiltshire-based company founded by Jake Hobson in 2004. Having learned his craft in an Osaka nursery, Jake returned home with a passion for pruning that’s helped to make Niwaki the leading brand of Japanese tools, ladders, knives and accessories in the country.Ā

The quality and precision of Niwaki products are legendary, many of them made in small quantities by deeply traditional methods: professional gardeners swear by them. Once you've used a pair of Niwaki snips, secateurs, shears or loppers, you'll never go back to your old cutting tools again.
