In 1890, in a small village in France, Joseph Opinel invented the folding pocket knife that now bears his name. In 1955, Marcel Opinel devised the unique Virobloc® system, which allows the blade to be secured in the open position. The Opinel company, located at Chambéry in the heart of the Alps, is still run by Joseph's decedants and manufactures blades of a quality that has made the brand famous for more than 130 years.
