For as long as I can remember, this has been one of my favourite local events, held in the grounds of Saltwood Castle, the ancient fortress where Thomas Becket's assassination was planned and successive earthquakes have created the most romantic of ruins.
Saltwood Castle's gardens are open just twice a year, making a visit to this plant sale a must. The grounds are littered with moats, fortifications and subterranean vaults. On the day, plant and craft stalls are nicely spaced throughout the formal and wild areas of the garden and there are teas and homemade cakes. Archery demonstrations will be given by the Castle Moat and Folkestone Bowmen.
