Dan Cooper Garden Mandarin Orange Christmas Decoration
The humble orange became part of Christmas tradition in the 19th Century, at the same time as we began hanging stockings by the fire. It's all thanks to the Bishop of Myra, the real Saint Nicholas, who gave three poor maidens balls of gold to use as dowries. Legend has it that he threw the the gold through a window in the dead of night, and one conveniently landed in a stocking that was drying by the fire. Whether this is a tall tale or completely bona fide, we shall never know.
